Welcome to ADAM, the Art, Design, Architecture and Media Information Gateway

Introduction

About ADAM

The Art, Design, Architecture and Media Information Gateway (ADAM) is one of the Access to Network Resources (ANR) projects of the Electronic Libraries (eLib) Programme, which has been funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the UK Higher Education Funding Councils (HEFCs) in response to the Follett Report.

ADAM is a Subject-Based Information Gateway (SBIG) to quality-assured art, design, architecture and media resources on the Internet.

The project aims to determine the needs of the user community through a process of consultation and evaluation, and to employ the most relevant information retrieval, terminology and cataloguing standards wherever practical. A training and dissemination programme is continually taking place, and will be expanded once the Service reaches the 'beta test' stage. The Project is also exploring various 'exit strategies' in the hope that the Service will continue after the funding period has ended.

About the Annual Report

This annual report is a component of ADAM's ongoing evaluation process, and feeds into the evaluation framework of the Electronic Libraries Programme by the Tavistock Institute:

"As innovative projects from which others are expecting to learn, it is important that eLib projects information and knowledge that will be speedily accessible to the wider community. This annual reporting structure is one way of ensuring that the lessons emerging from monitoring and evaluating the progress and success of the project are recorded, systematised and disseminated."[1]
